DEC Public Hearing on RW Mine Expansion: November 17
After almost 15 years, DEC has issued a Notice of Complete Application and Notice of DEIS Acceptance for the Red Wing mine expansion.
DEC has scheduled a virtual public hearing on Nov. 17, with sessions at 1:00 pm and 6:00 pm to take public comments about the mine expansion. Preregister by Nov. 16 if you wish to comment at the meeting. Or if you prefer, you can send in written comments until Jan. 11, 2023.

Persons who will login to the hearing electronically must register. To register, visit http://www.webex.com, click “Join a meeting,” input the event number 2349 085 0440 for 1:00 pm or 2336 942 6948 for 6:00 pm, then click “Register,” and fill in the requested information. You will be asked whether you wish to make a public statement. After registration is complete, you will receive a confirmation by email with information about how to join the hearing.
You can also connect by phone, but must register by Nov. 7.
To register by telephone: Any person who is not able to login electronically may participate by telephone. Call-in participants must register to speak in advance by calling the Department at 518-402-9003 no later than 3:00 p.m. November 7, 2022. Please provide your first and last name, address, email address if any, and telephone number and reference the Red Wing Rhinebeck public comment hearing.
On the day and time of the hearing, use the phone access phone number, (518) 549-0500, and the appropriate access code, 2349 085 0440 for 1:00 pm or 2336 942 6948 for 6:00 pm, to join the hearing.
Written Public comments will be accepted through Jan. 11, 2023. Equal weight will be given to oral and written statements. Written comments on this project must be postmarked by January 11, 2023 and mailed to John Petronella, Regional Permit Administrator at NYSDEC, 21 South Putt Corners Rd, New Paltz, NY 14209 or emailed to John Petronella at john.petronella@dec.ny.gov by 5 pm on January 11, 2023.
